Moses Maimonides was born in Cordoba Spain, in 1135. At the age of 13, he and his family were forced to move out of Spain due to Muslims invading the area. They do it to Palestine but couldnt live there because of the Crusades at the time. In 1160, he settled at Fez in northern Africa. Then in 1165, at the age of thirty he left Fez due to fear of persecutions occurring, and because settled in Fostat in Egypt. During Maimonides journey he was taught by his begin who was a scholar.After his brothers death Maimonides was stimulate to cogitation for a living, and he considered it a sin to ingest sustentation from knowledge of the Torah, so he became a twist. In 1177, Maimonides was prize as head of the Jewish residential district of Fostat. In 1185 He became the private physician to the sultan. The sultan is the Egyptian ruler. Although he had a busy schedule as a doctor and community leader, he kept writing books and produced 10 medical testing works all written in Ar abic. Moses Maimonides major contributions to Judaism were his literary productions; these are very significant because they have impacted on the development and expression of Judaism. Of particular major importance were the remonstrate on the Mishnah, the Mishneh Torah and the Guide to the Perplexed.
Maimonides began writing his commentary on the Mishnah in 1158 and it was finished in 1168. Mishnah is the oral law in a written form. He wrote it in Arabic, the everyday language of the Jews, so that the Jews would understand the Mishnah. It is an extensive work, with 26 sections, each of which is placed into a chapter or order. These orders deal with ! issues such as marriage, the Sabbath, complaisant law and the Temple. Maimonides included his Thirteen Articles of Faith in his commentary. The 13 articles of faith are a summary of the basic present of Jewish belief.
